The Kremlin: Putin went to Mariupol

after Crimea

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Ukrainian coastal city of Mariupol in

the Donetsk region, Russian news agencies reported on Sunday, citing the

Kremlin media office.

This is the Russian president's first visit to the city, which was besieged for

months and destroyed by bombardment before the Russian army took it last

May.

Putin arrived in Mariupol by helicopter and then drove around the city, according

to the Kremlin. He also spoke with local residents, visited several important sites

and heard a report on the city's reconstruction works, according to the same

source.

Before that, Putin visited Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, on Saturday,

marking the ninth anniversary of its annexation.

Putin's last visit to Crimea dates back to November 2021.

Russia annexed Crimea on March 18, 2014, following a referendum that was

recognized neither by kyiv nor by the international community.
