American Scientist Reveals A Way To
Eradicate Corona Virus At Its Roots
As scientists around the world scramble to find medical solutions to the outbreak
of the emerging coronavirus infection, an American professor is proposing to develop
a drug that would trace the mechanism of action of cancer treatments, targeting the infected cells instead of directly attacking the virus.
And between experimenting with antimalarial drugs on patients and trying to
develop an effective vaccine, other efforts are underway around the world to
eradicate the epidemic.
University of California Pharmacology Professor Kevan Shawkat says Corona
virus may need to be "treated like cancer", by attacking and destroying infected
cells, i.e. eradicating Corona virus to its roots.
According to Al-Hurra TV, Shawkat based his proposal on research focused on
finding a drug that targets the host cells of the virus, rather than the virus itself.
Viruses depend on host cells to replicate, prompting the human body to copy
viral proteins and genetic codes.
And the professor points out that selecting host cells can be more effective than
fighting the virus itself.
In an interview with "The Atlantic", Shawkat said, "I think it's closer to cancer
reatment."
According to Shawkat, developing a treatment capable of distinguishing between
healthy cells and those occupied by the virus is very complicated.
Studies indicate that the Corona virus does not mutate at the same rate as other
viruses.
“The good news about the SARS-CoV-2 virus is that it does not appear to
mutate, particularly rapidly for a virus. There are a number of different stages
in the disease cycle that could still be targets for treatment,” the Atlantic website
said. in a report
The world has recorded more than 1.5 million cases of the virus and nearly
90,000 deaths as a result.
